In the light of the further measures announced yesterday to deal with the virus, all of us have a role to play in trying to lessen the impacts of the pandemic. Last week we cancelled the AGM until later in the year, and we have now recommended that Indoor Meetings and Field Trips should be postponed for the foreseeable future. Whilst we do not want to have a situation of overkill, we do think that prudent actions we take today will help to keep people safe and healthy now and in the weeks and months to come.

Despite the forecast for poor weather conditions, seven members met for this field meeting led by John Lloyd.  We were lucky that the rain was slight and the wind calm between 10.00 and 15.00. We listed 38 species with our target species of Ring Ouzel showing well in the Starehole Valley. Other stand out species included Cirl Bunting, Yellowhammer, Sparrowhawk, Swallow (numbering approximately 50) and large numbers of Skylark. There were also large flocks of Goldfinch and similarly large flocks of Linnet. We also had, in Starehole, a beautifully plumaged Old English Pheasant sunning himself on a granite outcrop on the side of the valley.

Species list:-

Robin, Skylark, Woodpigeon, Carrion Crow, Herring Gull, Wren, House Sparrow, Stonechat, Meadow Pipit, Wheatear, Swallow, Goldfinch, Goldcrest, Eurasian Pheasant, Chiffchaff, Magpie, Chaffinch, Pied Wagtail, Dunnock, Linnet, Moorhen, Blackcap, Buzzard, Cirl Bunting, Raven, Yellowhammer, Bullfinch, Blackbird, Long Tailed Tit, Old English Pheasant, Blue Tit, Cormorant, Gannet, Ring Ouzel, Sparrowhawk, Great Black Backed Gull, Black Headed Gull, Jackdaw.
