Dawlish Warren

Please take extra care when visiting Dawlish Warren. We have been informed that due to the recent bad weather there has been significant erosion from Groyne 10 eastwards. This means that access along the site, to and from Warren Point (and the bird hide) will be via the beach only, with a risk of being cut off for a period either side of high water! Signs have been put up to alert people to the hazards, but people need to be aware that access routes that they have become used to may not be available and they need to exercise extreme caution,  with the possibility of being cut off by the tide, and people are strongly urged not to try climbing the sand cliffs. Further information is available on the Teignbridge District Council website.

I'm still hoping for a Firecrest though.

Mansands

Misty and raining this morning, saw a Little Egret first by the main marsh, it then flew off up the valley. After scanning the marsh, spotted a female/juv Marsh Harrier sitting out the rain in the middle of the marsh for about an hour. It then flew around the Southdown field before flying off towards Sharkham and Berry Head direction. Also Cetti's Warbler singing in the reeds and two Fieldfares by the top barns.

Broadsands

A Dusky Warbler was found by a visiting Birder in the back of the 2nd car park - I could not locate it later in the morning. The hybrid Mediterranean x Black-headed Gull that was around last early - mid Nov has returned to the beach with a small flock of Black-headed Gulls. Judging from previous experience with another hybrid at Preston for 4 consecutive years this bird will be in its 3rd calendar year (so 3rd winter).
