Chambercombe caterpillars.

I believe these are the caterpillars of the buff tip moth (the one that imitates a birch twig ) .  It is the right time of year for their. larvae. I wonder if  the food plant they are using has been treated with insecticide / herbicide etc.,and causing their death.
