Around the EXE

A full days Birding around the exe from 07:20 till 18:15

Mill on the Exe to start with produced 1 Dipper, 1 kingfisher , 2 Grey wagtail , peregrine and 4 Chiffchaffs.

Bowling green marsh 08:00 till 09:45, from the viewing platform, 7+ curlew sandpipers, among 300+ dunlin, 15+ ringed plover, 30+ knot, & Avocet, 13 juvenile Common Tern and a few Sandwich terns, kingfisher, 1 spotted redshank and 6+ chiffchaffs, 1 Blackcap, 2 jays, 2 Water Rail.

Next stop Exmouth and Orcombe Point 11:00 till 13:45

The Red Breasted Flycatcher showed well at times by the entrance to the Bristol School camp along with 4+ chiffchaffs, lots of meadow pipits and severall Wheatear in fields by the footpath back to the coastal path. After nearly an hours wait got a flight view of the Wryneck on the coatal path up from the Geo needle at Orcombe Point after it was flushed by a pair of Magpies also a Whitethroat and sevearll chiffchaffs.

Next stop Bowling Green Marsh from the Hide 15:30 till 17:50

7+ curlew Sandpipers all Juv's among 96+ dunlin, 28+ knot, 5 ringed plover, 1 fly over Grey plover, 7 Avocet, 9+ bar tailed godwits, 3 juv Ruff, 1 Whimbrel, 450+ redshank, 3 spotted redshanks, 700+ black tailed godwits and 450+ curlew, 22+ greenshanks, 25+ little egrets, 1 peregrine , 1 very agressive Lesser Black backed gull, 1 Wheatear, 250+ teal, 10+ wigeon, 15+ shoveler, 6+ snipe.

From the viewing platform 17:55 till 18:15

60+ common tern mostley juv's , 12+ sandwich terns, 1 guillemot, the sky was alive with Swallows, House Martins and Sand Martins easily 500+ but this a very conservative estimate

A Great way to end a very good days Birding with 87 species for the day
