Soar and South Huish

A cool, blustery morning around East Soar with Roy and Graham; the sun never came out and, neither did the birds really! Next-to-nothing in Starehole.

Only 80+ Swallows, 5 House Martins and a single Sand Martin, SE, plus c120 Meadow Pipits in the same direction. Also - Tree Pipit (2), Whinchat, Wheatear (14), Willow Warbler (4 including several really beautifully yellow ones), Chiifchaff (14), Great Spotted Woodpecker, Yellow Wagtail (5+), Grey wagtail (2), Alba Wagtail (15+, mainly Whites), Blackcap (2), and Whitethroat (5).

Later, at South Huish, the juv Purple Heron showed in the open, but distantly, at the back of the marsh (before reportedly flying further away and dropping near the sallows). A Curlew Sandpiper and Black-tailed Godwit dropped in; also Whichat, Kingfisher, Yellow Wagtail and 2 Snipe.

On the way home, a Green Sandpiper by the A379 bridge over the River Erme.
