08:50-16:30. Overnight rain, 100% cloud cover at dawn, fresh northwest wind persisting all day. Some rain mid-morning but when the front passed, brighter after.

Snipe ( flushed from the long grass which presently covers the Warren ), Golden Plover, 14 Stock Doves, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Wryneck ( watched from 10:25-10:40, mainly on overgrown dry stone wall which connects the two footpaths in Soar Mill Cove about 150 metres up from the cove ), 230 Meadow Pipits ( inc 150 on The Warren ), Grey Wagtail, Yellow Wagtail, 6 White Wagtails, 20Swallows ( poor hirundine day ), 4 Wheatears, Whinchat, 6 Blackcaps, 13 Chiffchaffs and 10 Goldcrests.

As an aside, had no transport today but managed to get to Malborough by bus at 08:10. Used the public  footpaths to get out to Soar and was amazed how many fantastic little birding spots are tucked away - brilliant for all sorts of things- sheltered too. I suppose the trouble ( with me at least ) is they only tend to get checked out when more favoured spots are quiet so we have no right to expect anything here then.
