Thornhillhead N.Devon

The male sparrowhawk that visits regularly has had a couple of successful days. Ambushed a female sparrow yesterday after hiding in a favourite spot in a hedge. Similar tactics today resulted in a blue tit late morning. Yesterdays catch was nearly lost to a magpie while it was being plucked on a post but the sparrowhawk successfully made off down the hedge avoiding the attention of a pursuing jackdaw. This male seems quite inquisitive and spent some time earlier this morning poking about in full view just a couple of feet off the ground and was back again this evening ignoring the alarm calls and swoops of our nesting swallows
