Exminster Marshes

A short visit from 9.00 to 10.00 this morning in the rain. but it was mild and birds were singing everywhere. 25 whimbrel flew over followed by 2 curlew. Four small waders rose from the centre of the marsh, probably dunlin. Lots of sand martins and swallows feeding low over the various scrapes. Higher up a flock of house martins with c10 swifts. It's amazing to think that less than 5 days ago these swifts might have been south of the Sahara in west Africa, (I know this thanks to Malcolm Burgess's fascinating talk last evening).

Elsewhere c70 shelduck, 3 teal and 2 garganey.
