Tarka trail - Braunton > Barnstaple

Apart from a healthy number of migrant Chiffchaffs in the vegetated sides of the trail the majority of wintering waders & waterfowl on the north side of the Taw Estuary have departed for their breeding grounds with just a few waders hanging on in their.

Redshank do sometimes swim when they are disturbed, in this case by a dog, but they swam ashore to carry on foraging in the soft mud with 2 Greenshank. The only waders at Pottington were Oystercatchers.
