Tarka Trail

Good afternoon for a cycle to find something....

Wrafton scrape had Common Sandpiper but no LRP (of which more later) on to Barnstaple and on the way heard at least 10 Blackcaps, 1 Willow Warbler and a few Chiffs. Good numbers of Shelduck on the river and a number of Black-headed Gulls too, including a few adults.

Decided to push on to the small muddy area opposite Bishop's Tawton, hoping for a wader or a Green Woodpecker. Well the wader turned out to be a Greenshank and not the hoped for Wood Sandpiper. Closer inspection revealed 2 Little Ringed Plovers! Same as this morning's at Wrafton or a different pair?

On the way back along the Tarka Trail the tide was rising and I saw at least 9 Whimbrel, and 2 Common Sandpiper. Also saw 1 Andy Lansdell. Like him I didn't see any Lesser Whitethroats, although I may have heard one.

Finally I walked around Sherpa Marsh. Swallows and Sand Martins in numbers.
