Sherpa Marsh
A quick walk around the ponds this evening in a cool to cold breeze, hardly conducive to spring passage.
2 Redshank flew up the Caen towards Velator harbour, and two more were having a thorough wash in the main pond and being harrassed by a drake Mallard.
About 40/50 Sand Martin mostly hawking insects over the water, but only a few Swallows (6?).
A fine drake Gadwall on the pond and 3 Wigeon flew over. 2 broods of Mallard ducklings. Nothing singing in the reed-bed, only two Reed Buntings seen.
The muddy pond by the Tarka trail has a small but annoying gaggle of Canada Geese, which may be intimidating anything else showing there, just a few Pied Wagtails.
