Night Heron Dartington

After a cold wait by the riverbank, at 9.05pm precisely, Alan Doidge, ENW and I had the  Night Heron   flying upriver  until lost behind the riverbank trees in dim light, unable to establish whether it dropped in anywhere. Exactly same time as last night's sighting. Alan initially picked it up apparently coming across from the other side, just after 3 Grey Herons flew across calling noisily . It seems necessary to wait at the original spot, ie. from the parking pull-in by the stone building, walk 100+ yards along the estate road then turn right through the gate (marked with a notice about dog fouling)  which takes you down to the riverbank, follow the path for 100+ yards further until you come out on an open stretch of bank. Those birders who tried waiting by the estate road were unable to see the bird.  3 Swifts fed overhead before sunset.
