News from Lundy

Tim Davis & I were on Lundy 16-20 April and have posted news on www.lundybirds.blogspot.co.uk.

The breeding-plumaged Long-tailed Skua flying up Millcombe on 16th must rank as one of the most bizarre (and exciting) birding experiences I have ever had! Though it was seen again, further up the island, it did not hang around for more than an hour or so. The long-staying Chough, which arrived in late October, was last seen on 30 March. Perhaps driven off by either the unseasonably cold weather, or (possibly more likely) by the island's resident crows as they became increasingly territorial at the start of the breeding season?

News from the island yesterday (23rd) is of a Golden Oriole.
