Exminster Marshes

A quieter day than yesterday. Although the sun appeared briefly it soon was replaced by the cloud and cold E wind we have come to expect. A single spoonbill was close to the canal-side car park; it had a single metal ring , above the joint, on its right leg. The flock of shelduck increases daily and today I counted 43 birds. Two small groups of wigeon totalled c80. Also 4 pintail, a few tufted duck and c30 teal.

The red-throated diver was on the canal and a common sandpiper flew over. Elsewhere a few lapwing and 10+ chiffchaffs mainly alongside the railway.
