Black Redstarts

Strong and very cold easterly wind on the coast today which meant very little bird watching.  Firstly there wasn't that much to see and if you stood still for too long you froze!  1 Wheatear near Gammon Head and two or three chiffchaff hopping in and out of the gorse bushes on the more sheltered slopes.

Highlight of the day were the redstarts - five of them in the valley on the way down to Mattiscombe Sands from the Start Point car park.  I think they were all black redstarts, one male certainly was, with splendid breeding plumage and white patches on the wings.
