Ringing this morning for scant rewards: best were 1 male Goldcrest, 1 Chiffchaff, - typical migrant with the 'rhino horn of gummed up feathers over the beak - and 1 Redwing. Retrapped the Green Woodpecker too. As I was leaving at 10 past 1, a large bird over the North side of the reserve caught my eye, bird of prey? Well yes - a RED KITE. first record I have for this site. I also walked down to Sherpa Marsh - numbers of Canada Geese and large Gulls on a new pond dug by the workmen doing embankment repairs a few months back. Also 15 or so Sand Martins, 2 Pied and one White Wagtail.
