Exeter - Starcross

Another "ordinary" day produced c70 species, including:

- a pair of Stock Doves in Belle Isle park, the first that I have seen there in my 30 years of residence nearby, plus the usual 20+ in Powderham Park;

- a Dipper and 20/30 Redwings in and over Northbrook Park, the latter, I think, having spent the Winter feeding primarily on the University playing fields;

- 7 LBB Gulls on Matford pond, newly arrived;

- 25 Little Egrets along Lime Kiln Lane, nearly all now sporting head-plumes;

- 6-8 each of Cetti's, Chiff-chaffs, and Reed Buntings singing along the canal bank;

- 2 Pochards on the storage lagoon at Exminster;

- c90 Shelducks on Exminster, with another c40 in Powderham Park;

- a 600+ "Dunlin" flock partially visible from Turf Lock, which, on closer examination, proved to contain 40+ each of Knot and Grey Plover;

-  the usual Stonechat pair in Powderham Park, getting intimate;

- a Mediterranean Gull, 10+ Greenshanks and 30+ Turnstones off the Kenn outfall as soon as the tide fell.

"Missing" today were G-c Grebe, Water Rail, Common Gull, Pintail and the Egyptian Geese.
