Exe Estuary: Pale-bellied Brent Geese

Today's WeBS count was rather unexciting, compared with the position just over a week earlier. However, I was pleased to read the colour ring codes on two of four Pale-bellied Brent Geese at Starcross golf course (blue on the right legs, yellow on the left; codes U2 and IZ, respectively). The ringing information (courtesy of Graham McElwaine, Irish Brent Goose Research Group) shows that they had been ringed together in October 2015 at Strangford Loch, Northern Ireland and wintered in Normandy each year since. Clearly a pair keeping together, they have also been seen several times in May in SW Iceland, where they stop to refuel en route to the Canadian Arctic. A fantastic series of re-sightings!
