From yesterday around the Exe

Stover Country Park ~ at first light, a Water rail flew up from in front of the hide straight into cover, five female Goosander flew in, pair of courting Great Crest Grebe, several Cormorant a mixed handful of Swallow and Sand Martins, Green Woodpecker calling almost constantly.

RSPB Matford ~ Teal, Wigeon, Tufted Duck, Shoveller, two Great Spotted Woodpeckers, one Chiffchaff in full song from the top of a Willow, Coot, Moorhen, Buzzard and a good number of Sand Martins low over the water, marsh and pasture.

Bowling Green Marsh ~ Large number of Black Tailed Godwits many turning to summer plumage, Pied Wagtails, Starling, at least two Spotted Redshank, Redshank, Knot, five Avocet, Oyster Catcher, Curlew, Moorhen, Shoveller, eighteen Pintail, Shellduck, Wigeon, Teal and Heron.

Exminster on the approach to Lions Rest a Kestrel being mobbed by a Carrion Crow.

In the stubble field on the corner before turning down to Powderham Church a Cattle Egret feeding with eleven Little Egret. (Could be seen clearly from alongside a cottage named “Verbena”)

River Exe at Countess Wear more Sand Martins than could be counted low over the river.

Hackney Marsh / Passage House Inn a good number of Gulls, both Greater and Lesser Black Backs, Little Egret, Heron and Shellduck.

Teigngrace ~ Fifteen Little Egret, eight Mute Swan, around a dozen Canadian Geese, Stock Dove, good number of Wood Pigeons feeding on a fodder crop, Greenfinch, Bullfinch almost constant movement of Sand Martins.

Dart Bridge, Buckfastleigh a single very vocal Grey Wagtail.
