Slapton Ley

6+ sand martins ranging over The Ley this morning. 3 male and 2 female goldeneye, 3 male and a female pochard and 2 male and a female wigeon with gadwall and tufted duck on the water. Large number of mute swans, 64+ mobile birds, both adults and immatures, with 2 on reedbed nests.

A chiffchaff singing and 2 water rails squealing at The Bridge. Cettis warblers heard and 3 seen. A large immature female peregrine with very pale grey/brown upperparts overhead spooked all the ducks and gulls.

A great northern diver on the sea with an adult gannet flying west before rain stopped play at 11:30.
