Hillsborough (Ilfracombe) to Watermouth

06.25 to 08.15, ENE3-4: Meadow Pipit migration really getting going with a minimum of 269 heading along the coast into the wind in small flocks. As other recent mornings alba wagtails (15) and small numbers of finches, including Siskins, amongst the pipits. Probably not surprising that there has been no sign yet of any Wheatears, hirundines or even Chiffchaffs along this section of coast which is so exposed to the chilling north-easterly wind, offering very few sheltered spots that might allow insectivores to feed. It was nice to enjoy the (relatively) balmy warmth of Wrafton yesterday evening, watching Chiffchaffs flipping about in the sun and snapping at insects – see Rob's photo below.
