Exminster Marshes

This afternoon, under grey sky and in a cold wind, about 30 sand martins were feeding over the various pools. Near the lagoon 4 wheatears, all males, sat motionless in the grass. On the canal - one goosander (red head and may have been the bird seen on and off during the winter). Nearer the Turf one, possibly two, green sandpiper flew onto the wet flashes nearer the railway, calling loudly. I counted 5 chiffchaffs during the walk around the perimiter of the southern marsh.

Two peregrines on pylons, one buzzard and a good variety of ducks made up for the cold and damp conditions. Spring seemed a long way off.
