Birds are already nesting - Devon Atlas

Jon Avon has been out and about and reports as follows:

Two Blackbirds nests with 3 eggs each and a Stock Dove with two eggs!  A second Stock Dove was noted leaving a nest box at Broadhempston at lunchtime. Despite the cold weather some species are carrying on regardless.

Other recent breeding records including Siskins with nesting material on Friday 8th March at Stover, a Blackbird egg found in Cricketfield car park, Newton Abbot on 14th March. In Kingsteignton, Greenfinches nest building on 20th, and Collared Dove and Carrion Crow nestbuilding on 23rd.

In Yelverton we have two Jackdaws carrying nesting material and one pair of our House Sparrows have started to lay.

All useful records for the atlas database. Don't forget to send in any breeding records please - you can email them through to Julia Harris

Many thanks
