Exminster Marshes

Extensive flooding so I only managed to walk down Station Lane to just past the Lion's Rest industrial estate. Most birds were seen from the railway bridge between 2.00 and 3.00 pm. North of the bridge were 9 male wheatears plus others including one female (total probably c14). With them was a black redstart, c12 pied wagtails. and about 30 meadow pipits. Further away to the north - 1 green sandpiper, several swallows and a distant group of black-tailed godwits

Down the lane were lots of chiffchaffs, I estimate 30+ feeding in the hedges and out on the flooded fields.Over the flooding 28 sand martins but this was the minimum count. Several groups of waders including 8 snipe, 28 redshank, c150 dunlin together with curlew (not counted). A female peregrine was eating a kill when I arrived and eventually flew up on to a pylon. The spoonbill could be seen in the distance in  Powderham Marshes.
