Stover & South Brent

A midday vist to Stover (which was full of mum's with kids and dogs) on the lake one female Goosander staying well out from the lakesides, spent most of the time preening before starting to feed, Two rather territorial Great Crested Grebes in full plumage, A pair of lesser Blacked backed Gulls that took exception to a third one that flew in and was driven off with little ceremony the aggression was also directed at both Herring gulls and to a lesser extent Black Headed Gulls that got into range. Numerous Robins seen and singing, Marsh and Great Tit's in evidence but shyer than usual. Ducks included Mallard, Tufted and Pochard Buzzard soaring high over the park. Pair of Nuthatch seen on leaving.

Back home at South Brent, Green Woodpecker still calling but over the last three weeks only seen once, Pair of Raven over head displaying, early this morning the resident pair of Buzzards ganged up on a Carrion Crow and after several determined chases it took shelter in a tree where the male continued to harass it, this behavious was evident last year prior to nesting.
