Exe Estuary

This afternoon's Stuart Lines cruise was in pretty poor light, but there were lots of birds nevertheless. A female Common scoter was at the estuary mouth to start with, and an immature drake Eider was there on our return to Exmouth. The Great Northern Diver and Slavonian Grebe were again off Cockwood-Starcross, plus a Little Grebe at Starcross and c15 Great Crested Grebes scattered between there and Lympstone. Mergansers totalled maybe 20. Again there were big flocks of Brent Geese and Wigeon, with c100 or more Pintail. Waders also similar to 22nd, with maybe 500 Avocets and Golden Plover, c250 Lapwings, 1000 Black-tailed Godwits, c50 Knot and 2 Greenshank.
