Exmister marsh

watched along station road from 14:30 till 16:40

The water levels are high on the marsh with flooding at the s-bends by the middle car park and the marsh was alive with waders and ducks.

300+ golden plover were in several groups between the lions rest industrial estate and the lagoon, 800+ lapwing , 200+ avocet and 1500+ dunlin were more towards the fishermans car park and the canal along with 20+ knot, good numbers of black tailed godwits and curlew were spread all over the marsh as were good numbers of wigeon and teal, 30+ bar tailed godwits and good numbers of redshank, 1 green sandpiper, 40+ snipe flushed by a peregrine, 1 buzzard, 1 kestrel, 4+ water rail, 6+ chiffchaffs, 2 Cetti's Warblers, severall groups of redwing and fieldfares, 4+ stonechat, 2 kingfisher, 12+ little egrets.

Excellent numbers of starlings going to roost with one group of 7000+ and another of 3000+ seen in the fading light and a female merlin was active on the north end of the marsh.
