RSPB Bowling Green Marsh

Bowling Green Marsh 10:30 - 14:00

Plenty on view overhead and on the marsh today with plenty of thrushes on show 5+ Song Thrush in the lane 100+ Redwing over head and feeding on Hawthorn around the perimeter with 60+ Fieldfare in small groups flying over throughout my stay.

Plenty of ducks on show with 300+ Widgeon 200+ Teal, good numbers of Shoverler, Mallard, a few Pintail, a couple of Gadwall and a Pochard. 5 Greylag Geese, with 20+ Redshank flew in and 20+ Snipe flew over with atleast 10 also on the Marsh. Atleast 30+ Bar Tailed Godwits flew low around the marsh decided not to land and went back to the Estuary.  110+ Avocets came in just before high tide. Always great to see.

100+ Starling feeding, with 20+ Pied Wags and Meadow Pipits and 50+ Lapwing dotted around Fields. Great views of a Water Rail feeding under the railway embankment pleased a lot of visitors to the hide this afternoon. Also on view in that areas were the resident pair of Foxes, three Jay busy collecting Acorns along the railway bank, with several Woodpigeon doing the same.

200+Brent Geese flew over the marsh from the Darts Farm direction producing another great Autumn sight.

To awaken the flock and a few birders! 2 Buzzards flew over and a Sparrowhawk flew low across the ponds scaring all but a few!.
