Thurlestone Sand

Probable Grey Phalarope. I have not seen this species before and did not get great views of the bird so I cannot be totally certain of the ID. When I first saw it flying over the tops of large breaking waves about 30 yards out, I thought it was a Dunlin. Then I saw it was sitting on top of the water like a gull, riding the waves and occasionally making short flights when troubled by a particularly big wave. It was loosely associating with several black-headed gulls. The plumage looked right for grey phalarope but it was hard to get a good view with the wind, the spray and the huge rolling waves.
