Prawle

As autumn draws to a close ( arrgh! I hear you cry) the 3 amigos ( PM, JL and TM) set forth to discover late migrants :

Highlights today being 2 Yellow-Browed Warblers –both found by PM ( one in the reserve which we all saw at c 11.15am and another in Merrymore Lane towards Pig’s Nose Valley which JL and myself did not ); then 2 Merlins (JL and I saw one at Langerstone Point on rocks; I saw another on the edge of the recording area on top of a telegraph pole on leaving Prawle ) and 6 Egyptian Geese in field nr Merrimore Lane.

A brief seawatch by JL later joined by PM c 10am from Bunkers produced 6 skuas : 3 Bonxies ; 1 Arctic, I imm Pom and 1 unidentified skua all west ; also a Great Northern Diver and  2 Balearic Shearwaters, 5 Common Scoter east and 2 Common Dolphins.

Vis mig results (8.15 to 9.30) : 3 Siskin, 1 Reed Bunting, 790 Goldfinches, 258 Linnets , 195 Chaffinches, c 100 Meadow Pipits, 220  Woodpigeons (the start of things to come ?) , 11 Stock Doves, 8 Greenfinches , 13 Swallows. PM also saw a late Whitethroat nr the Hump.

Elsewhere 12 Long-Tailed Tits, only 3 Goldcrests ,  2 Chiffchaff and 1 Clouded Yellow. Well noted was the lack of thrushes. JL and myself left at 4.30pm.
