Soar

Birding 07:15 - 16:30. A guest appearance by Richard White and all the birds appeared! Little real movement but early on 100+ Alba Wagtails, 45 Chaffinches west, and 10 Siskins west. A Redstart at the top of Starehole and a Firecerest (first of autumn for me) in East Soar Willows.

Then a purple patch around midday. Two Woodlarks over fields west of East Soar Farm. A Wryneck in the scrub patch below the copse (and for a short time in the hedge lower down next to the willows, before returning) - seen about 5 times between c11:45 and 13:15. Favouring the landward end by the area where the grass invades the scrub and seen several times in a small isolated hawthorn. Whilst standing here (@ c12:30) a Richard's Pipit flew west and disappeared over the Warren.

Otherwise: Redpoll sp 1, Whinchat 2, Chiffchaff 16, Goldcrest 10, Blackcap 1, Grey Wagtail 1, Wood Pigeon 200+, Song Thrush 4, Greenfinch 5, Stock Dove 2.

A great day's birding!
