Exminster marshes

Visit at lunch time slightly ahead of high water. Water levels up since yesterday with extensive flooding north of the lane. Viewing from railway bridge located the adult whooper swan with 4 mute swans. Lots of black-headed gulls and curlew but difficult to count.

On the main marsh duck numbers similar to yesterday although 2 pintail were new. Singles and groups of snipe frequently flying around and calling with 19 being the largest group. I estimate a total of 30 seen. Also 19 lapwing and c60 black-tailed godwit. A peregrine on a pylon and sparrowhawk on a gate appeared to make the 30 or so meadow pipits nervous.

On the canal bank 6 blackcaps (2 males), 2 goldcrests, 2+ chiffchaffs and 2 flocks of mixed tits. Overhead 2 swallows and 5 house martins.
