Around Brixham

Continuing the hirundine theme. We had a break in the mist over the head at 14:30 when a large influx of House martins and Swallows appeared to come in off he sea travelling NE and feeding . For about 15 mins I would estimate that the number of birds was in the thousands and extended accross all of the heath and head. Again probably an 80/20 split in favour of the House Martins.

In the quarry were 3 goldcrests and 8 chiffchaff, male and female Stonechat. On the top ,2 redstart, one at the crossroads and one in the south fort were the highlights There are so many chiffchaffs, I got to 36 in the main gorse stands.

5 wheatear at the start of the breakwater this morning dodging the walkers, over to the pontoon and back.

Another break in the mist at Sharkham showed another busrt of mainly Swallow activity but nowhere near the numbers over the head earlier
