Exe estuary

A walk from Countesswear to Starcross produced:

- on the canal bank, a rare, prolonged, clear view of a Water Rail, preening and chuckling to itself, plus multiple singing Cetti's Warblers as soon as the sun came out;

- from Topsham lock, a Goldeneye on the river;

- on Exminster Marsh, the 4 Barnacles with 12+ Greylags near the main pond, plus the usual uncounted ducks and Lapwings;

- in the estuary, a G N Diver, 10+ G-C Grebes, 20+ R-B Mergansers, 300+ Golden Plover, 200+ Pintail and 200+ Shelduck;

- finally, at Starcross, a welcome hot pasty, not the best, but good enough. A very satisfying day,
