Pirates at Bowling Green

We've all seen Gulls, Skuas, Crows and others harrying other birds to drop food in order to get an easy meal.  Today on the marsh I witnessed this same behavior between two species I wouldn't have expected.  A Black-tailed Godwit pulled a big worm out of the mud and set off towards the water when a much smaller Redshank began to relentlessly chase it around, the pair even taking to flight a few times. This lasted a good minute or more but I never saw the final outcome. Is piracy of this kind common practice among waders?
