Braunton

Met Rob J on the Tarka Trail near Tesco this morning, (female Great Spotted Woodpecker gave great views) and we tracked down the Siskin flock in the Alders on the south side of the Tesco bridge. There were 25+ feeding well, but were then put up by something, again no Redpolls apparent.

I went over to the reserve and found at least a dozen (more?) Siskin there. A Redshank was again on the flood, and the Gull flock included a couple of Common Gulls. Went on down to the estuary - in the Caen quite a few Redshank, one Little Grebe and a Common Sandpiper.

Looking across at Isley, I could make out one Spoonbill, and at least 10 Little Egrets in the area.

On my way home I got to the Tarka Trail and once again the Siskins were in the Alders (by the trail this time) and it seemed as if there were more. The heavens opened, it got darker and it was clearly time for lunch.....
