Dartmoor ~ Buckfast to Princetown

Dart bridge this morning only had three drake Mandarin on view, five Mallard and two Muscovy’s on the river, pair of Jays bathing on the edge of a shingle bank.

Three Kestrels seen in the Princetown area and just outside a flock of between 30 & 40 Lapwing flying in very low over the ground they landed in very rough pasture and once on the ground best count I could make was 15 mixed in with a large Starling flock.

Just beyond Powder Mill male Merlin spotted about 400 yds from the road sheltering on the lee side of a large granite boulder, stayed in situe for some time. Buzzards were plentiful all round and frequently hunting or perched on the road sides.

Several large flocks of Fieldfare occasionally with Starlings.

Near the entrance to Soussons farm a huge and growing flock of Chaffinch far beyond counting and constantly arriving but no sign of any Bramblings with them.

Dipper on the Rv Dart by Holne Bridge.
