Avon Dam

After six (inc four ad males) on 6 May, then two zero counts, there were seven brown-head Goosanders roosting at the Avon Dam this morning. First seen on the water at 0445, they sat on the shore from 0500 to 0525 and flew out, unusually, east towards the Dart at 0535, also unusually calling in flight. I am tempted to think this was a female with a brood of this year's young, but is it too early for them to be adult-size and free-flying?  Also 50+ Herring Gulls roosting, and Nightjar churring on walk up to dam at 0415.
