Raptor-us morning

At Matford Pools the Glossy Ibis was showing well and among 29 Little Egret and a Grey Heron. On Matford Marsh we saw a Sparrowhawk chase after a Whitethroat without success. We then visited Goosemoor which held no waders but we watched a number of Reed Warblers feeding on the reeds alongside the cycle path. At BGM we had three Common Sandpipers and a number of Black Tailed Godwit and a few Lapwing among Mute Swan, Mallard, Moorhen, Grey Heron,B/H Gulls and Coot suddenly the birds went up when a Peregrine flew over carrying some prey. We then walked to the viewing platform where we had Redshank and Greenshank and then we were amply rewarded with great and prolonged views of an Osprey fishing in the mouth of the Cyst river and then flying over the platform clutching its fish - superb views! At Darts Farm we saw a Kingfisher and three Buzzards circling overhead, a nice conclusion to a great morning's birding around the Exe and the Clyst.   John Lloyd and Bob Barrow
