Heathfield Starling Roost

A further decline to an estimated 10,000-12,000 this evening (10th March).  Small numbers from 17.33 although larger numbers (flocks of up to 250+ from 17.38 with most birds from the Ashburton/Newton Abbot direction but heading towards Bovey Tracey/Haytor until 17.57 when a similar number (ca 3,500) to those counted in, returned to Heathfield circling around quite high at times across a large area as far as the A38 (and beyond?) and the Bovey Tracy area.  Numbers then built up over a period of 20-mins with some good display during the next 10 mins (17.58-18.20).  Small groups continued to arrive from both the Ashburton/Newton Abbot and Bovey Tracy/Haytor areas until 18.30 with the last birds into the roost by 18.38 - quite a bit later than previous observations.
