Exe Estuary cruise

Today's Stuart Lines Cruise was brilliant! Star bird I suppose has to be the Sandwich Tern off Powderham - my latest in Britain. Also off Powderham was (dare I say the regular?) Spotted Redshank with a couple of Greenshanks. Waders were spectacular in the upper part of the estuary, with 500+ Avocets, 100 Golden Plover, 300+ Lapwings, 20+ Sanderlings, 100+ Bar-tailed and probably c1000 Black-tailed Godwits, together with good numbers of Dunlin, Redshank, Curlew, Grey Plover. 3 Snipe even got up from the saltmarsh at Topsham.

110+ Pintail were loafing around the mouth of the Clyst. The Slavonian Grebe was off Cockwood, while in the outer part of the estuary there were 5 Great Crested Grebes, perhaps 100 Shags, 2 Goldeneye, 50+ G B-b Gulls, a few Lesser Black-backs and maybe 50 Common Gulls in total. Mergansers probably totalled over 30.
