Dawlish Warren

The only notable things during an early morning WeBS count were the resident Slavonian Grebe, 535 Teal and a Kingfisher in the estuary, although I heard fly-over Crossbill, Redpoll and Siskins while counting. On the golf course there were 25 Pied Wagtails and 27 Meadow Pipits, plus at least 4 Rock Pipits in the saltmarsh.

A walk to the hide later produced the adult Bonaparte's Gull preening on one of the groynes, 62 Shags offshore, a distant group of Common Scoter (30-ish), 3 Water Rails calling around the main pond and another Redpoll over. The bushes produced only a few Goldcrests, Chiffchaff, Blackcap and 3 Bullfinches. Oh, and a distant falcon in a shallow stoop in pursuit of small birds looked surprisingly like an Eleonora's Falcon ... but it flew off and I'm saying no more!
