Exe Estuary Turf

The fog was very thick and did not lift until after the WeBS count, at about 10.30. I heard a few waders but saw almost none apart from 2 dunlin and 5 ringed plover at Turf. A common sandpiper (did not call and appeared to have rounded wings) flew past and landed to the north of the canal entrance.

On the sea-wall were 3 wheatears, one chiffchaff, robin and about 6 meadow pipits. A flock of about 80 house martins and 20 swallows appeared immediately the fog cleared. There were two kingfishers around the Turf. On the canal bank I saw one blackcap (male), two (late) reed warblers, at least 6 chiffchaffs and a flock of c200 starlings.

An atmospheric count if not very productive.
