Exminster marshes

Having just returned from France I was pleased to see that the grey phalarope was still present this afternoon. On the way down the lane there was one flock of 10 pied wagtails and another of about 30 yellow wagtails, both flocks were associating with cattle. A second winter Med gull flew over as I watched the phalarope. Elsewhere at least 9 chiffchaffs on the canal bank, a kingfisher on the canal and streams of swallows and house martins passing over.

The crossing from Brittany was rough at times and birds were hard to see; 4 great skuas, 1 phalarope sp. and 1 Balearic shearwater were the highlights in British waters within two hours of Plymouth.
