Start Point

06:10-09:45. Clear most of the night , 30 % cloud cover by daybreak, cloud increasing swiftly through morning. Mod SW wind.

Saw the following watching the vis mig from the car park between 06:30-08:45 ( all birds headed between south and southeast ). 3 Skylark, 2 alba wagtails, 40 Meadow Pipits, 4 Swallows, 420 Chaffinch, 300 Goldfinch, 130 Linnet, 39 Greenfinch, 26 Siskin, 17 Brambling, 7 Bullfinch and 2 Reed Buntings. As often the case Woodpigeon movemnt erratic and hard to fathom. Conservative count of 3000 ( mussed have missed loads ) flying southwest inland on a rough heading between Slapton and Lannacombe / Prawle. Very likely many of these birds later seen flying north offshore form the point towards Slapton and others flying north up Mattiscombe Valley. Away from the vis mig a Short-eared Owl flew south over the ridge, a ring ouzel called from gorse below the car park, a Lesser Redpoll flew overhead near the light and a Great Spotted Woodpecker passed by. Nothing down at the light and in the farm just a Chiffchaff and a couple Jays.
