Savage attack on Mute Swan by Spaniel

Witnessed an unprovoked attack on a Mute Swan this morning by a spaniel between Wrafton Pond & Velator Reserve. The dog was able to get down the bank by the side of the Tarka trail easily & onto the Swan within seconds. It targeted the wing & did not let go until the owner was able to get access into the field which took several minutes. I phoned the N.Devon Animal Ambulance who have always been very quick to respond to make an assessment of the injury & take any necessary action. They arrived promptly as asual.

Please note - This is not the breeding pair on Wrafton Pond which had 7 juv's at the beginning of the week but now only has 3 juv's. What is killing these juveniles?
