Velator reserve

Quick walk around this morning revealed a very skulking SEDGE WARBLER in a sort of sub-song, and a new bird for the reserve in the form of a female PIED FLYCATCHER.

Anyone know what form of life is nipping off the top 6 inches or so of the emerging reeds and leaving them to their fate? Not exactly helping with my efforts to increase the reed-bed cover!
