Start Point

Mist/Fog, Wind E/NE 2-3   07.00 - 14.30  Mist lifted 13.00

A good fall this morning, met Bob Burridge who arrived at 07.00 found hundreds of thrushes around the lighthouse, flocks of Redwings moving up the headland. I arrived at 09.00, birds everywhere, Song Thrushes and Redwings mainly. Thrushes moved through by 11.30. Highlight was the minimum 21 Black Redstarts (9 around the lighthouse, 2 at the farm, 3 on the telegraph buildings and 7 around the cliffs), also a Woodcock flew out of the bracken near the lighthouse and a late Hobby. A classic late October fall, really enjoyable birding.

Totals: Redwing 600+, Song Thrush 400+, Blackbird 150+, Robin 60+, Back Redstart 21+, Blackcap 15+, Chiff-Chaff 12+, Starling 100 around the light, Hobby, Woodcock, Goldcrest 15+, Swallow 10+, Chaffinch 60+, Fieldfare , Mistle Thrush,  Ring Ouzel, Whinchat, Wheatear, Redstart, Yellow Wagtail, Brambling, several dead thrushes sadly around the lighthouse.
