Wembury, 5th Feb

A walk from the main beach at Wembury to Wembury Point and back along an extremely muddy footpath was worth it with sightings of :- 1 grey wagtail along the stream flowing across the main beach, 2 beautiful adult Mediterranean gulls flying up and down the shoreline and dipping in to the water for food, 1 common sandpiper along a sandy stretch of beach near the sewage pipe, a smart adult lesser black backed gull on the rocks amongst the roosting gulls and a female type black redstart (possibly an immature male) feeding on the seaweed mass near the sewage pipe along with a very nice water pipit feeding with meadow and rock pipits allowing for a good comparison - interestingly it was quite aggressive towards any nearby rock pipits but seemed to tolerate the nearby meadow pipits.
