Exe estuary

A short private boat trip from Topsham to the mouth of the River Clyst at mid-day today coincided with low water and lots of sunshine. The exact number of red-breasted mergansers was hard to count as they continually moved around in small groups but I estimated c35 plus 4 goldeneye of which two were males. Few other duck but an impressive flock of c600 avocets, c100 bar-tailed godwits and c50 knot. Dunlin were well spread out over most of the mud as were redshank, curlew and grey plover.
